These create threaded holes in your wood that will help us screw the table legs onto the bottom. Sir, was one of your 10 by 14-inch pieces and measure in how far you want the legs to be. We did one and a half inches from each side mark out four dots for this next, using a drill bit. That is the size of your tent drill. This part is a little bit tricky because you need to make holes deep enough for the t-nuts to go in, but not deep enough that they go out the other side.
So if you do not sure to make sure you go really slowly once all your holes are made, we're dropping in a little bit of wood glue to help the nut stay in place. Now, with a hammer the nuts into the holes until they are flush with the wood, now we're ready to put our side pieces on so here is where we thought we had a genius idea, but it didn't end up working out so well. We bought these wooden plugs that we thought we could use to cover up the screws that we'll be using to assemble the table.
So this way the nightstand would end up looking like solid wood, and you wouldn't see those ugly screws which are smart right. We needed to place the plug so close to the edge of the wood, so it would line up with our side pieces and we needed to use a drill bit. That was large enough for this. All this together ended up chipping the wood, and it was so not cute, but a good thing. This was the bottom piece. Our top piece ended up looking great, so we scrapped this idea completely and just went straight for the screws.
We had to place our nails lightly out from each corner to avoid hitting the screws and the nails that were in the wood from the top and the bottom. So we started out using the same long nails that we use for the top piece, but we realized. We didn't actually need nails this long, because our back piece is really thin, so we switched over to finishing nails because just much easier, but you can use your guide for this. If you want, whatever you have once it's all put together, we have a good sanding using an electric sander to make sure all the edges are smooth and everything felt flush together.
